I have 11 years experience in the ‘health & wellness’ industry both in the nutrition, catering and event space. My ethos is about making health accessible to ALL. It’s no lie that “health & wellness” feels more like a high end “trend”. My method is all about empowering clients to take control of their health and make it as practical and achievable. I want to close the gap that determines health is only applicable to a certain archetype and educate you on the simplicity of individualised “optimal health”. I came to April having had issues with my health for 14 years. I was fortunate enough to meet April who from my first session told me categorically she completely believed she could fix me so I can eat a normal diet again with no restrictions. From that point I took on an intensive 6 month course that April guided me through. Here I am 18 months later and I can tell you that she has completely changed my life. My gut is healed, my diet is 100% normal and I have NO fear around what I eat because I understand (from April’s guidance) what I am putting in my mouth and the effects it may have on my body. The biggest win for me though was the enlightenment she gave me in general health practices and how to get my 8 fruit and veg in a day without even trying. Educate
Your diet is truly your tool box for vibrant skin and it’s a great place to start. A wholefoods diet that is abundant in veggies, fruits, healthy fats, good quality proteins and of course good hydration is the foundation of a good skin diet.
Cortisol a.k.a the stress hormone stimulates fat and carbohydrate metabolism, creating a surge of energy. While this process is essential for survival, it can increases appetite, promote body fat, heighten cravings for sweet, fatty and salty foods. The stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol make it harder for insulin to work, and this causes your blood sugar levels to rise leading to weight gain.
Your body responds to changes in your psychological state; like stress. This can cause new skin issues to develop or existing skin issues to flare up. When we feel stressed, our sympathetic nervous system releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline into your body. Stress can cause inflammation through the gut-skin connection. Internal inflammation can present acne, eczema and psoriasis.
Stress is the number one driver to chronic disease. It’s important we support our body in becoming more resilient. Cortisol a.k.a the stress hormone can control blood sugar levels, regulate metabolism, reduce inflammation, assist with memory formulation, regulate salt/water balance and control blood pressure. Ever had it when you go on holiday and you always get sick? That is because cortisol is a protectant. In moments of high sustained stress it’s triggered in helping you fight, but once it lowers you can become immunocompromised.
